Change begins where there is support and belief in oneself. One such story was the participation of Timea, a mother of four from the city of Berehove, in trainings organized by the Transcarpathian Regional Charitable Foundation “Blago” with the support of UN Women in Ukraine and funding from the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF).
Timea’s life was full of challenges. Lack of education and prejudice against Roma created additional barriers for her. Despite this, she looked for opportunities to provide for her children by trying sales through social networks. However, the lack of necessary knowledge and support complicated this process, and her attempts did not bring the desired results.
In moments of confusion, Timea seemed to have an unattainable goal. She didn’t know where to start, and she lacked confidence in her abilities.
“I had already lost hope that I could do something and start earning at least a little, because we, the Roma, are prejudiced. Today at the training, I was inspired to try again,” the woman says.
The training on social entrepreneurship was especially valuable for the woman. The stories of women from other regions, who were shown as examples, inspired her to come up with new ideas. Thanks to the knowledge and support she received, Timea realized that she could create new opportunities for herself and her children. Now she is determined to continue learning, developing, and implementing her ideas, showing her children and everyone around her that change is possible.
This story demonstrates how educational initiatives can inspire, give a new start, and open up prospects even for those who feel powerless in the face of life’s circumstances.
